This last weekend, the Rangely High School track and field team traveled to Cederedge to compete in their 11th annual invitational meet. While everyone came to the meet focused and ready to compete, several athletes shone this weekend, excelling in their performances to reach new personal records.
Freshman Andrew Morton broke his discus PR by almost three feet with a throw of 85-5.
Marie Morton senior, also shined alongside her brother this weekend in the discus ring throwing a PR of 94-4, which awarded her a first place finish at the meet.
Senior Chase Kenney did a good job throwing the discus as well receiving a sixth place finish with a throw of 107-11.
This weekend several dual sport athletes also traveled with the team, which gave us the opportunity to compete in several relays we normally wouldn’t have the numbers for.
These athletes, who also play for the Rangely girls soccer team, were freshmen McKale Pennell and Tessa Slagle, sophomores Heather Turner and Leslie Hernandez, and seniors Tori Slagle, and Rosalise Coombs. Although these athletes will not be able to compete in very many meets, their participation, energy and support are a major contribution to the team.
Still early in the season, Rangely’s track and field coaches look down the road optimistically for their athletes to continue to improve and begin to reach their full potential.
