RANGELY I The annual Couples Classic Golf Tournament was played at Cedar Ridges Golf Course on Saturday and Sunday, and the two-day event featured 20 teams from across the Western Slope and eastern Utah that were divided into two flights.
Only one Rangely team placed in the top three of the championship flight, but Rangely golfers dominated the second flight.
“The format for this tournament is Chapman, which makes for an interesting round of golf,” Cedar Ridges golf manager Chris Hejl said. “We were fortunate to have picture perfect weather and a great, competitive field for one of our best tournaments of the season.”
Roger and Taylor Walters of Rifle were the best golfers on the course last weekend, turning in a gross score 136 after two days of play.
Rangely’s Robby and Trilby Elam had the best net score (125) in the championship flight, eight shots better than Jim and Dorlene Roy of Glenwood Springs and 11 shots ahead of Bruce and Avery Hill of Grand Junction, who finished with the third-best net score.
Doug and Britt Choate of Battlement Mesa had the second-best gross score (144) in the championship flight while Dustin and Hannah Kissling of Grand Junction finished third with a gross score of 161.
Locals Rick and Ann Brady had the best gross score (173) in the second flight, one shot ahead of Jeff and Yvonne Otto of Glenwood Springs and eight shots ahead of local golfers Rob and Leilanie Morgan.
Rangely golfers Trey and Candra Robie had the best net score (125), six shots ahead of Lyle and Diane Peterson. Mark and Donna Hayden finished with the third-best net score in the second flight to round out the placers.
The Men’s Club Championship will be played on Aug. 22-23 and the Dotson Memorial Scramble will be played Sept. 5.
