2nd win sweet for Lady Cowboys

MEEKER I Playing a team a second time can be a challenge. Playing a team for the second time in less than a week can be even tougher.
Meeker’s volleyball team managed to do it, though, beating Aspen at home last Thursday (26-24, 22-25, 25-22, 25-21) after having defeated Aspen on Sept. 5.
“The win over Aspen was sweeter the second time,” said coach Christy Atwood.
In a triangular on Friday, the Lady Cowboys split, losing to Vail Christian (24-26, 11-25, 15-25), but winning over Hayden (25-20, 12-25, 25-21, 25-20).
“The first match of the triangular was difficult to do the things we had done well the night before,” Atwood said. “Vail Christian has a strong front line and passers that just didn’t allow us to finish the plays we needed to finish.”
The Lady Cowboys bounced back in the next match.
“We were able to regroup and get a win against Hayden, showing glimpses of greatness from all players,” Atwood said. “Laura Glass had an incredible match against Aspen and Vail Christian. She was a major contributor in our win against Aspen … In the Hayden match, the whole team earned the win. It was a great effort from both the floor and the bench. Youth is a beautiful thing. We are able to grow through each play, each set and each match.”
On Saturday, the Lady Cowboys faced a strong Roaring Fork team, losing in three games (15-25, 18-25, 8-25).
“Roaring Fork has a great team again this year,” Atwood said. “We saw a quicker offense than we have seen this preseason or even this summer. I knew when we scheduled this match it was going to be tough. Our girls will learn from the experience and we will be better for it.”
Meeker finished the weekend 2-2. The Lady Cowboys will get another shot at Vail Christian on Friday in their first league matchup.
“We have our adjustments outlined and hope to give them a better match,” Atwood said.
