RANGELY I Three Panther wrestlers won the Grand Junction wrestling tournament last Saturday. One finished as a consolation champ and another won a match.
“They wrestled well,” head coach Derek Stolworthy said of the five wrestlers who competed.
Colton Coombs won all three of his matches in the 152-pound bracket to win the gold medal and Jake Smith won three matches to win the 170-pound title. Rangely heavyweight Patrick Brown won two matches and the championship and Ethan Allred won three matches and lost one to the eventual champion, to finish third in the 138-pound bracket. Chance Peters won a match at 145 but did not place.
“This week we are on the road,” Stolworthy said.
The Panthers will dual the Grand Valley Cardinals tonight and travel to Alt, Colo., to wrestle in the Highland Duals.
