MEEKER I Meeker High School (MHS) expects to graduate 37 seniors at 10 a.m. on Saturday in the high school auditorium.
Chosen by the senior class, high school mathematics instructor Naomi Etchart, a 1999 Meeker High School graduate, will give the commencement address. Etchart earned her bachelor’s of science degree in global security and intelligence from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Ariz.
Faith Patterson, daughter of Mark and Colleen Patterson, is the valedictorian of the 2016 Class while Madison Shults, daughter of Clint and Tera Shults, is salutatorian.
Graduating seniors will practice their graduation ceremony at 10 a.m. Friday, after the Meeker Board of Education’s breakfast with seniors at 9 a.m.
Baccalaureate exercises for the senior class will be held today at 7 p.m., hosted by the Meeker Ministerial Alliance in the high school auditorium. The alliance is the association of Christian ministers representing Meeker’s member churches and is dedicated to faith in Jesus Christ, unity in the Holy Spirit, fellowship, friendship and service to the Meeker community. The baccalaureate will be led by Pastor Aaron Zielinske of the Assembly of God Church who currently chairs the MMA.
Graduating from MHS means having satisfactorily completed at least 40 credit hours in language arts, 40 hours of math, 30 hours of social studies, 30 hours of science, 20 hours of career technical education, 10 hours of teen life skills, 10 hours of fine arts, 10 hours of physical education or three sports seasons, and 50 elective credits.
