4-H events, activities start tonight

RBC I Rio Blanco County community members are cordially invited to attend the 4-H Fashion Revue coming up! The Meeker 4-H Cake Decorating Club and the Sweet Sewing Sisters Clothing Construction Club are hosting the annual 4-H Fashion Revue today at 7 p.m. in the West Exhibit Hall at the Fairgrounds. Family, friends and the public are encouraged to come and cheer on our dedicated 4-H members as they showcase their hard work and talents. The Sweet Sewing Sisters will take the catwalk in their handmade outfits and the Cake Decorating Club members will be strutting the catwalk too, with their cakes. Beautiful and delicious cakes will be available via silent auction throughout the evening for you to bid on and to take home and enjoy.
Looking for something to do with your dog? Bring your dog down to City Park next to the dog pound in Meeker on Saturday, July 14 from 9-11 a.m. for the 4-H “Give a Dog a Shot” day where vaccines will be available on a discounted rate and wonderful, loving and lonely little dogs will be looking for a forever home through the adoption program. All dogs getting shots will also get town licenses for free! The Marvelous Mutts Dog Club will be selling dog treats and disposable doo-doo bags to raise money for the dog pound.
On Tuesday, July 17, the Meeker 4-H Council is working with the Forest Service on a Capitol Christmas Tree Ornament decorating session at the Walbridge Wing. Space is limited to 10 4-H members. Call today and get signed up for this great community pride activity.
Thursday, July 19 is Chemistry Camp Day for RBC 4-H members! Mad scientists unite for a day of portions of potions, collections of concoctions, learning all about mixtures and reactions, comparing dry and water ice, flame tests, acid-based explorations and more! Space is limited to 20 4-H’ers, call today to get signed up!
Right around the corner is the ever-popular Rio Blanco County Shoot-Off Contest where 4-H shooting sports members get to show off months of dedicated practice shooting for a chance at the State Shoot and a time to show off how much they have improved. The public is invited to watch these marksmen and women on Saturday, July 21 at the Meeker Sportsman’s Range beginning at 9 a.m.
There is a lot going on this month and plenty more during fair week. The Rio Blanco County Fair is just a few weeks away. Fair books are available around town, so grab a copy and see what you can do to share in all the action. Pies, quilts and art aside, all furry critters are also welcome to show at the fair. 4-H/FFA and Open Livestock entries are due to the extension offices Monday, July 16. Check the fair books for more upcoming entry dates and contest information.
