4-H members do well at state fair

RBC I Rio Blanco students in 4-H and FFA fared well at the Colorado State Fair in Pueblo the past few weeks, led by Meeker’s Macy Collins, who, according to her mother, Kathy Collins, “just returned from a very successful state fair.”
While at the fair, Collins showed goats, lambs and her heifer.
With her goats, Collins took third in intermediate showmanship as well as took first, third and sixth with her market goats. She sold her first-place market goat in the junior livestock sale for $1,400 to the Denver Rustlers.
With her lambs, Collins took seventh place in intermediate showmanship, but she took first, seventh and ninth places in the market classes. The first-place lamb qualified for the livestock sale as well, but participants are only allowed to sell one animal at the state fair.
Collins also captured first place in intermediate breeding heifer showmanship, for which she won a beautiful buckle and she captured second place in her breeding class.
Other Rio Blanco residents who were recognized well at the fair were Meeker students Maclaine Shults, Madi Shults of Meeker and Samantha Lapp of Rangely, who came away as the All-State Livestock Judging Team.
Taylor Neilson of Meeker captured second in the market beef class, which qualified her steer for the livestock sale, where she sold the steer for Renee Neilson at the assessor’s office for $4,000.
Also in livestock, Justyne Dembowski of Rangely took sixth place in her market beef class and she also showed a ewe in the lamb classes.
In the non-livestock categories, under general projects results, there were 16 other entrants from Rio Blanco County who either qualified or placed at the fair.
In those classes, there were two Grand Champions and two Reserve Champions from the county. The Grand Champions were Anthony Garner (Junior Miscellaneous Shooting) of Rangely and Tessa Slagle (Senior Furbearers) of Rangely. The Reserve Champions were Dax Sheridan (Junior Shotgun) of Meeker and Jake Smith (Senior Big Game) of Meeker.

459 – Jr Shotgun, 16 entrants, Dax Sheridan of Meeker, second place (Reserve Champion).

In the Performing Arts Categories, Alexis Wiley of Rangely won a blue ribbon in intermediate solo singing class.
