CSU Agent Bill Ekstrom (pictured) and 4-H Youth Coordinator Jayda Lewis spent an afternoon at Parkview Elementary School recently with two first grade classes. Ekstrom and Lewis gave a presentation on how water moves and then broke the class up in groups. Each student got to make a chia pet to take home. Ekstrom and Lewis also visited the fourth and fifth graders. In one experiment titled “fat bear vs. skinny bear” they used the scientific method in an experiment to learn how fat insulates animals from cold. They also spent a day dissecting owl pellets with the fourth and fifth graders, learning about the eating habits of birds of prey.
