MEEKER I The Barone Middle School volleyball teams were on the road this weekend to play a scrappy team in Steamboat Springs. The seventh grade teams found the consistent serving and play of the Sailors to be extremely difficult, especially one strong overhand server in the A game. The teams were doing their best to stop the offense but could not seem to catch a break and fell in both matches on the day.
The eighth graders were more fortunate, and with more time to recover from the bus ride played very well against Steamboat. They rallied to win the B game and the A team came out extremely well demolishing the Sailors in game one behind outstanding team serving including a pressure game point serve by Peyton Burke. The Steamboat girls would not go down easy and rallied to win game two forcing an intense game three. The young lady Cowboys kept their composure and showed great heart as they came back to win the deciding third game.
Kinzie Burke not only served well but followed her serves with solid defense, as did her teammate Reese Pertile, controlling the net for Meeker. The teams all have seen a great deal of improvement and look to be extremely competitive as they go into the back half of their season playing the teams they now know again. Coaches Jennifer Turner and Ivy Coryell will no doubt have their teams serving well and increasing their offensive and defensive abilities to give the teams everything they have in the upcoming weekends. The girls are an exciting bunch of athletes certainly worth watching and the future looks very bright for BMS volleyball.
