Meeker Fire Chief Steve Allen, left, watches as fire department emergency medical technician Laura Smith ties off a tourniquet to draw a blood sample from Michelle Shults, right, during the Channel 9 Health Fair on Saturday at Meeker Elementary School. There were 590 participants, taken care of by 76 volunteers, and 20 persons took advantage of the Lions Club pancake breakfast. Organizer Christy Atwood called the health fair “a huge success this year. This was our first year in the new elementary school and what a difference the facility brought to the fair. We were able to decrease the wait time for participants with the additional space and volunteers and were able to add more screens and information tables for the community.” Atwood thanked the Meeker School District for providing the venue and gave a “very special thank you” to the volunteers.
