Oversized loads traveling Highways 13 and 64 aren’t an uncommon sight, but an oversized load escorted by four State Patrol vehicles and bearing radioactive labels was unusual enough to incite chatter on Facebook last week. Colorado State Patrol Captain Leonard Dittman confirmed Monday that the load was, indeed, nuclear waste on its way to the Clive disposal facility 75 miles west of Salt Lake City, Utah. Highway 40 is the usual route, but due to weight restrictions, this particular load had to be rerouted through Meeker and Rangely. Dittman was uncertain where this particular shipment originated.
