Dale William Frisby

June 9, 1927 ~ June 3, 2019

Dale Frisby was born June 9, 1927, in Talmage, Utah, to William John and Dolores Ottosen Frisby. His brother Lee joined the family Jan. 9, 1929. The family moved to Meeker, Colorado, when Dale was 4-years-old and resided on the Nine Mile Ranch, owned by his grandfather, Hans Peder Ottosen. After two years, the family moved back to Talmage and eventually to Heber City, Utah. Dale had very fond memories of his time in Heber City, where all of his immediate family are buried.

When Dale was 16, the family returned to Meeker, buying a ranch on the mesa. Dale immediately got involved in school activities, playing all sports, being captain of the basketball team and his relay team set a state record. Dale was student body president his senior year. Before graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. WWII was still going on. Upon graduation he left for boot camp at Naval Station Great Lakes in Chicago, Ill. While in boot camp, Dale received the sad news that his father had passed away. He was granted leave to come home and help with the harvest. While still in boot camp, the war ended and Dale continued serving his country for three more years. He had many good memories of friendships and the learning that can only come from serving one’s country. Soon after returning to Meeker, Dale lost his younger brother to a heart condition.

Dale settled in Meeker, where he married the love of his life, Emma Lou Klein, on Dec. 27, 1953. They were destined for one another, even sharing a birthday. Their son Lance William was born in 1955, and daughter Vicky Lee in 1957.

In 1959 the Frisbys bought a nursery and floral business, which thrived because of their strong work ethic and love of gardening. In addition to running his own small business, Dale served on the town council, WREA board and the sanitation board. In 1962 he became county assessor for three terms and later served as county commissioner for four years. Dale was an active member of the Lions Club, a volunteer fireman and served on the fire board. He was a devoted member of the Methodist Church and served on many committees.

In 1977 Dale became the transportation manager for Meeker School District, his last and favorite job. Dale loved serving the youth of his community.

Upon retirement in 1992 at the age of 65, Dale took up the sport of golf. He had a great time with his buddies, working and helping with the greens, but mostly visiting and golfing with his friends and grandson.

Throughout his life, Dale enjoyed fly fishing, hunting, motorcycling, bowling, picnics, woodworking, gardening, but mostly being with his family and friends. Dale and Emma Lou seldom missed an activity or sporting event involving their children or grandchildren. He continued to support the high school athletes, even this past school year. In fact, he was such a fixture at sporting events, there is a seat in the gym with his name on it…literally.

Dale received recognition and many awards for his love of Meeker. He never passed up the opportunity to visit with other members of his community, young or old. Dale was known for his sense of humor and fun-loving jokes.

Preceding him in death were his mother, father and brother.

Dale leaves his wife of 65 years, Emma Lou; son Lance (Debbie) Frisby of Durango, Colorado; daughter Vicky (Mike) Tate of Meeker. Four grandchildren: Christina Cummings of Durango, Colorado; Alex Frisby of Denver, Colorado; Amanda (Will) Watson of Wichita, Kansas; and Kelsey Tate of Meeker. Six great-grandchildren: Keenan Jensen, Deuce Watson, Andrea Watson, Daiven Watson, Marquis Watson and Landree Tate. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.
