Abestos abatement work begins with CNCC’s Rector Building

RANGELY I For the first three weeks of August, Armando Lopez and his team from Elite Environmental Services will be doing asbestos abatement and demolition to clear the area of the last portions of asbestos in the Rector Building on the Colorado Northwestern Community College campus in Rangely.
The scope of the initial work is to remove the majority of drywall, ceiling tiles, utilities, floor tiles and any fittings that may contain traces of asbestos.
The asbestos abatement policy in Colorado requires that team members tasked with removing possible asbestos to be wearing a full protective suit and breathing masks should any asbestos become airborne. The workers have fitted the building with temporary HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) systems to provide negative air pressure, which means the air within the building is constantly being cycled through filters to prevent debris from becoming airborne and exiting the building.
The building has been fully contained while the team does its work.
Asset Engineering Limited, the construction manager/general contractor (CMGC) on the project has installed construction fencing to protect and contain two different areas. The parking lot will be where construction vehicles are to park as well as where deliveries are to go.
Supplies will then be delivered to the Rector Building either before 8 a.m. or after 5 p.m. to mitigate any interruption of classes.
The fencing at the Rector Building is the construction zone the CMGC will need to position equipment as well as where the building expansion will be located.
On Wednesday, equipment at the Rector Building should have started doing earthwork in preparation for the first portion of the remodel/construction project.
