Accidents keep RBC Sheriff’s office busy

RBC — Accidents with property damage and an ambulance call were a few of the incidents that kept Rio Blanco County sheriff’s officers busy during the last week.
Sergeant Patrick Darrow responded to a non-injury commercial vehicle accident at 71300 Highway 64 March 31 at 1:50 p.m. After investigating the accident, Sergeant Darrow determined that the 1994 Peterbuilt driven by William Roberts, 27, of Delta, Colo., was making a legal left turn southbound off the highway onto a private driveway when Timothy Nelson, 51, of Meeker attempted to pass Roberts on the left in a 2007 International. As a result, Nelson struck Roberts and continued westbound coming to rest off the south edge of the highway, with both trucks damaged during the accident. The investigation also determined that neither drugs nor alcohol were factors in the accident.
A 911 call from XTO Energy at 4927 County Road 5 was received by the Rio Blanco County Communications Center April 1 at 8:36 a.m. The reporting party at the XTO office was in contact with another party at Bronco Rig No. 27 who stated a man was down on the rig floor and CPR had been in progress for approximately 10 minutes. Deputy Adam Wade and a crew from Meeker Volunteer Fire and Rescue responded to Bronco Rig No. 27. Clifford J. Sheehan, 64, of Sequim, Wa., was pronounced dead at the rig site. According to Coroner Randall Cochran, Sheehan had a massive heart attack as a result of coronary artery disease. Sheehan fell a few feet from the rig during the cardiac attack. The fall was not a factor in his death.
At 12:47 p.m. April 1, a rancher reported that a man came to his door stating he had wrecked his truck earlier that morning. Undersheriff Michael Joos responded to 9400 County Road 5 to assist the Colorado State Patrol with the investigation of the accident. Raymond Zetka, 19, of Rifle, Colo., was not injured in the accident.
Deputy Travis Mobley responded to a report that a 16-year-old female had run her truck off the roadway near the intersection of County Road 6 and County Road 45 April 5 at 7:27 p.m. As a precautionary measure, the driver’s parents took her to Pioneers Medical Center where she was released a short time later. After investigating the accident, Deputy Mobley determined that the 2006 Dodge Ram had rolled during the accident, as well as damaged a fence.
The land owner was notified regarding damage to their fence and the driver was issued a citation for careless driving.
