RBC — More thunderstorms moved through northwest Colorado during the weekend, bringing with them lightning and some precipitation. Northwest Colorado Fire Management crews worked to contain fires in Rio Blanco and Moffat Counties and wrapped up a couple fires left over from the previous day. The Moffat County Sheriff’s Department responded to three fires on private land with assistance from Northwest Colorado Fire Management engines. All fires over the weekend were the result of lightning.
The Kraft and Sand fires are now 100 percent contained. The Kraft Fire at 668 acres and the Sand Fire at 24 acres.
Weather is anticipated to begin a drying trend later this week. Once high temperatures and low humidity are back it will quickly return to a receptive fire situation.
No fire restrictions are currently in place for Moffat, Rio Blanco, Routt, Jackson or Grand counties. However the public is urged to use caution with any outdoor fires as conditions continue to dry. Some counties have fire restrictions in place; please check any areas you plan to visit by call the local sheriff’s department or the Colorado Division of Emergency management Web site. Check weather before igniting a fire outdoors; if it’s windy don’t light any fires. Always have a shovel and water on hand and build campfires on bare soil with a 10 foot radius outside the fire area. Make sure all fires are cold before leaving them — if coals are too hot to touch they are too hot to leave unattended.
