MEEKER I Author Susan Reneau will give a short presentation at the White River Museum in Meeker from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday about the hunting stories and photographs she has collected for her hunting book, “Colorado’s Biggest Bucks and Bulls.”
Reneau’s presentation is a fundraiser for the White River Museum in that 20 percent of her book sales will go to the museum, which is also hosting its annual open house and volunteer appreciation on Sunday.
“Many people and animals of Meeker are featured in my book,” she said, “as well as the white buck that graced the Meeker community a few years ago.”
Reneau said she will also be looking for new stories and historical photos for a future edition “that won’t come out for about 10 years, but your community is the start of my fourth edition,” she said.
“I think my book is the only hunting book that has produced three new and complete editions except for the Boone and Crocket Club’s book titled ‘Records of North American Big Game,’ which I edited for the 10th edition,” she said.
“I wrote the first edition of ‘Colorado’s Biggest Bucks and Bulls’ in 1983 and the second edition in 2001,” Reneau said. “This third edition has listings up through Oct. 15, 2014, so it is very current.”
The goal of her presentation? “I want a huge turnout to celebrate all that is great about Colorado and especially great about Meeker,” Reneau said. “The book covers all of Colorado, but because the Meeker area is so famous to hunters, many people and animals are featured from your area.”
Reneau said she does benefit presentations all around Colorado for each of her editions because it is the local historical societies that provide many of the never-before-seen photos that grace her books.
