MEEKER I Mark Barlau of Glenwood Springs defended his title as champion of the Old Farts In Carts (O.F.I.C.) tournament played last Saturday at the Meeker Golf Course. The field of 27 golfers, split into two flights, featured more than 20 from out of town.
Barlau defended his 2011 title by shooting a one-under par 67, which was 10 shots better than second place finisher Earl Cherry of Rifle. John Savage, also of Rifle, finished with the third best gross score (79) in the first flight.
Meeker’s Irv Griffin tied with Mike Chastain of Rifle with the third best net score (66) in the first flight. Pat Hayes of Rifle had the best net score (59) and Ash Durrett of Glenwood Springs finished second, six shots back.
Clint Chappell played well on his home course, finishing with the second best gross score in the second flight, one shot behind the champion Troy Mannon of Rifle, who shot an 80. Jim Farris from Glenwood Springs finished third with a gross score of 87.
Joe Barnhill from Byers finished with the best net score (62) in the second flight, one stroke ahead of Phil Gallagher of Glenwood Springs. Ted Jessup and Steve Webb, both from Rifle, tied at 71 with the third best net score.
