MEEKER — Barone Middle School’s seventh-grade volleyball team finished its season on a great note by winning the seventh-grade tournament Saturday in Craig.
They went into the tournament the No. 2 seed which put them against Rangely in match No. 1.
The cowgirls won the match in two games behind the strong serving of Aly Ridings and great net play by Taylor Neilson and Shelby Burke.
This put the team in the finals against Craig who had given the girls their only loss of the season. The seventh-grade girls came out strong, winning the first game handily. The Cowgirls’ attack was assisted by Cowgirls’ setter Piper Haney.
Anna Ducey and Torie Gerloff’s serve receive passing allowed them to set up the kills.
The momentum was maintained as Deena Norell and Taylor Morris came in the game to serve well. Mariah Jensen, Dannon Bolton, Liz Fellows and Kelly Crawford rounded out the championship team.
The seventh-grade girls had 25 participants this year. All of the girls were able to gain a lot of game type experience against Craig and Steamboat who had three teams and Rangely who had two. Their enthusiasm, ability and eagerness makes their future look very bright.
