MEEKER I Pioneers Medical Center, Eastern Rio Blanco Recreation and Parks District, Meeker Drugs, Pioneers Healthcare Foundation and the Meeker Human Resource Council (Meeker’s local United Way) have joined together to offer a multi-faceted health and wellness program.
Blazin’ Trails is a free wellness program designed to inspire our community to start — and continue — on a journey to a healthier lifestyle. As individuals, each person can design their own itinerary using the resources, tools and support provided through Blazin’ Trails. Collectively, we hope to explore a world of wellness as we encourage community-wide progress with milestone celebrations and prizes.
The Blazin’ Trails program is designed to:
n Promote preventative care by urging annual check-ups and appropriate medical screenings that will be the foundation, or “map,” for each individual’s path to better health.
n Incorporate fitness opportunities to encourage people to add more physical activity to their days and adopt healthier habits.
n Foster improved nutrition and lifestyles by providing educational classes and real-world tools that empower people to make healthier choices.
As a “Scout” in the Blazin’ Trails program you will receive a “passport.” Each time you complete an activity of the Blazin” Trails program (e.g. get your annual physical, walk a mile, attend a cooking class, etc.) you earn stamps in your passport. You can redeem your stamps for prizes, including the grand prize for a weekend trip to Moab, Utah. You can register for Blazin’ Trails, and pick up your passport at either Pioneers Medical Center or the Meeker Rec Center.
As part of the Blazin’ Trails program, look for the blood pressure kiosk at Meeker Drugs which will be installed in February to help residents monitor their blood pressure.
There is no charge to participate in Blazin’ Trails and it is open to anyone in Meeker. However, you will be responsible to cover expenses associated with medical care and fitness classes you participate in. If you are interested and would like to learn more about the program; contact Sharon Parr with Pioneers Medical Center at 970-878-9373 or Katherine Sharp with the Meeker Recreation Center at 970-878-3403.
Blazin’ Trails is a community-wide program, open to everyone. The program is funded through a grant from our local United Way-Meeker Human Resource Council. The funding is made possible in part by corporate support provided by XTO Energy and Colowyo Coal Company. Blazin’ Trails is managed as a partnership between Pioneers Medical Center, Meeker Recreation Center and Pioneers Healthcare Foundation, with special thanks to Meeker Drugs.
