BMS 7th-graders continue to win

MEEKER — For a second week in a row, the Barone Middle School A-team won its basketball game last Saturday it was in Craig. The seventh-grade B-team and both of the BMS eighth-grade teams lost to the Bullpups.
In support of one of their teammates, the game scheduled for this Saturday against Soroco, has been cancelled.
The BMS seventh-grade A-team beat Craig 31-17, with Jake Boesch and Fabian Jones leading the team with eight points each.
Cody McLaughlin, J.C. Henderson and Caleb Lange each scored four points in the B-game, which Meeker lost 12-27.
“Both teams did a great job,” seventh-grade coach Ben Anderson said. “The B-team had a lot of steals but just could not get their baskets to fall. We found some things we need to work on but overall we are very excited for the rest of a good season.”
The BMS eighth-grade, A-team lost 12-26 and the B-team lost 25-30.
“The guys had a tough time waking up in the first game since we only had less than 10 minutes from the time we got to the gym until tip-off,” BMS eighth-grade coach Neil Joy said of the scheduling error.
The Cowboys scored two points in the first half of the A-game and were down 2-17 at halftime.
“They did an excellent job defensively in the second half and played with a lot more toughness,” Joy said. “We finally got some shots to go in the second half. We look forward to playing Craig again in the tournament.”
Nate Walsh led the A-team with six points, while Wyatt Rowlett, Karch Bullard and Ben Fitzgibbons each added two.
“The B-team played with a lot of heart,” Joy said. “Some of the Craig guys were twice their size.”
The score was tied 4-4 at the end of the fist period and BMS led 18-10 at halftime. The team trailed 19-21 going into the final period.
“We got a lot of steals for layups, we just need to get better at making those layups,” Joy said.
Joey Scherbarth led the B-team with seven points, Stefan Cochran and Alex Smith each added four. Scott Smith scored three, Dalton Rholl and Drew Collins each added two and Walsh made a free throw.
