MEEKER — The Barone Middle School girls basketball teams hosted the Steamboat Springs Sailors last Saturday and won three of four games.
The seventh-grade girls won both the A and B games, while the eighth-grade A team won and the B team lost.
Bailey Atwood led the seventh-grade A team with eight points and Kaysyn Chintala added four in the team’s 16-13 win. Tristan Neilsen pulled down six offensive rebounds and Kaylyn Edwards led the team with four defensive rebounds. Chintala, Edwards, Jordan Brown, Kaitlyn Dinwiddie and Savannah Vaden all had three steals each.
“It was a fun game, I wish our shots would have been dropping more,” said seventh-grade coach Kris Casey.
The seventh-grade B team won 24-17 and were led by Amanda Kendall’s six points and four defensive rebounds. Edwards, Nicole Hilkey and Maclaine Shults all finished with four and Anna George pulled down five offensive rebounds. Cassi Fronatt led the team with five steals and Shults was responsible for grabbing turnovers.
The BMS eighth-grade A team also won 16-13 and were led by Vanessa Rodebaugh’s 10 points and 17 rebounds. Nakita Stout made her first three-point shot of the season and finished with five. Kathryn Doll and Adrienne Wix each had four steals.
The eighth-grade B team “played hard” according to their coach Megan Kidwell but lost 19-24.
Katie Morgan led the B team with 10 points, while Sydney Boes had four rebounds, Natalie Carroll finished with three and Genesis Samaripa pulled down two. Boes also led the team with four steals and Aubrey Walsh had three.
Meeker will be the site of the annual league tournament, where The seventh- and eighth-grade A teams will play in the high school gyms. Meeker, Rangely, Craig and Steamboat Springs will all be in attendance.
The BMS seventh-graders will play Rangely at 8 a.m. and the BMS eighth-graders will play Steamboat Springs at 9:15 a.m. Rangely’s eighth-graders will play Craig at 8 a.m. in the main gym.
