BMS comes out on top at Rangely

RBC I In a matchup of county rivals, Meeker’s Barone Middle School teams won its games last Thursday at Rangely.
Meeker’s eighth-grade team won both games, 29-21 (A team) and 20-16 (B team), as did the seventh-grade teams.
In seventh-grade games, Meeker’s A team won 21-10 and the B team won 19-13.
“Both teams did a great job,” said Meeker seventh-grade coach Ben Anderson. “I was really impressed with the amount of hustle they gave.”
For the Meeker seventh-grade A team, Jake Phelan led with 10 points, six rebounds and four steals. Zane Pfau added six points and four steals, while Tristin Pelloni had five points, six rebounds and two steals.
In the seventh-grade B game, Meeker rallied in the second half to win.
“I was proud of the team,” Anderson said. “They are already addicted to the winning feeling, and plan on continuing this throughout the rest of the season.”
Last Saturday, Rangely’s combined seventh- and eighth-grade A and B teams played Steamboat Springs.
“Both teams showed improvement, but couldn’t get the win,” said coach Matt Scoggins.
