MEEKER I In a good start to the season, Barone Middle School’s eighth-grade boys’ basketball teams won their openers Saturday against Craig.
In the A game, Jake Boesch scored 11 points, Dylan Mobley six and Kevin Eli five to lead the way in Barone’s 26-20 win.
“The boys did a great job of remaining patient on offense and not turning the ball over,” said coach Neil Joy. “I could tell they were having fun out there in the second half.”
Jeremy Musgrave scored 20 points and Bruno Juarez 18 to lead the eighth-grade B team to a 40-14 win.
“Bruno had several put-backs and Jeremy seemed to steal the ball every time Craig got it across half court,” Joy said. “The B team played real well. The boys did a good job running out the clock for the entire fourth quarter.”
In the seventh-grade games, both Barone teams lost to Craig.
“Both teams did a good job, we just could not make our baskets,” said coach Ben Anderson. “We know what we need to work on for practice this week.”
Tristin Pelloni had a total of seven points and eight rebounds in a combination of both games, Raul Lopez had nine points in the A game and three rebounds, and Austin Purcell had five steals in the B game.
“We lost the games, but I was proud of the team and told them to hold their heads high. We did a lot of good things,” Anderson said.
Meeker’s teams will play today at Rangely.
