MEEKER I Barone Middle School was well-represented at the regional history competition Saturday with several projects advancing to the state competition in Denver in May.
The competition was divided into four categories. In the group exhibit category, the team of Halle Ahrens, Bryn Walter and Meghan Smith won the competition with their project titled “9/11 – The Turning Point In Security” and will advance along with the team of Lori Ann Klinglesmith and Maggie Phelan who placed third with their Berlin Wall project. They will be joined by Delenn Mobley’s regional-winning individual documentary project titled “Cold Cereal.”
In the group website category, the team of Casey Turner and Hunter Garcia placed second at regionals with their stealth technology project. The special museum award given by the Grand Junction Museum was awarded to Kinzie Burke and Reese Pertile for their sign language project along with Julia Eskelson and her project on Elizabeth Blackwell.
The contestants from Meeker did an outstanding job and all participants are to be commended for their hard work and dedication to their projects. The state competition will give the regional winners an opportunity to advance yet again to the national level where winners are awarded scholarship money.
