MEEKER I The Barone Middle School wrestling team continued their successful season last week, winning dual meets against Hayden and the Panthers in Rangely Thursday last and finishing second as a team in Oak Creek last Saturday.
“The kids are all wrestling well,” head coach Lee Overton said. “It’s always nice to beat Rangely and Hayden. We wrestle Rangely again this Saturday, along with Craig.”
In Oak Creek the young Cowboys finished second with 228.5 points, 19 behind the champions from Craig and almost 90 points ahead of third place Eagle Valley.
“We had eight kids make the finals and came home with seven champs,” Overton said.
Sheridan Harvey, Robby Jensen, Casey Turner, Dillon Frantz, Devon Pontine, T.J. Shelton and Noah Overton all won individual titles. Seventh-grader Josh Cochran made the finals but finished second and Cody Purcell was a consolation champion.
“Josh was up 8-0 in the third period and made a mistake and was pinned in the finals,” said Overton.
“Sheridan and Robby both avenged earlier losses in the finals and Dillon upset Stelio Peroulius of Craig and Casey Turner is an absolute stud,” Overton said of some of the champions.
Meeker will host Rangely and Craig Saturday starting at 9 a.m.
