MEEKER — Fourteen wrestlers are out for the Barone Middle School team and several opened the season last Saturday in Craig.
“We have a few experienced wrestlers and some that have never seen a meet before,” BMS head coach Adam Hoatson said.
The young Meeker Cowboys defeated Steamboat Springs to open the dual-format tournament but then lost to Craig and Grand Mesa, the eventual champs. Meeker did defeat Rangely in the final dual for a fifth-place finish, in a field of 12 teams.
BMS seventh-grader Dylan Mobley, wrestling at 120, won both of his matches and BMS eighth-grader JR Crawford won three of the four matches he wrestled in the heavyweight division.
“It was an average performance and we have a lot to work on but they lived up to my expectations and wrestled with pride,” Hoatson said. Lee Overton is assisting Hoatson with the coaching duties.
The BMS wrestling team will compete in Hayden this Saturday.
