MEEKER I Because of other extracurricular activities, a smaller number of Barone Middle School wrestlers competed in Oak Creek but several placed in the top four and the team finished fourth.
BMS seventh-grader Tannen Kennedy and eighth-grader Jacob Pelloni both advanced to the championship match but only Kennedy was victorious.
“We have some really aggressive kids and Tannen is one of them,” head coach Lee Overton said of Kennedy, who won the 105 pound bracket. “I was glad to see Tannen win it, he’s directing his energy in the right direction and he gets after it.”
Trapper McGruder finished third in the 80-pound bracket and the young Cowboys had three others finish fourth; Codey Follman (85), James Amick (115) and Christopher Strate (125).
Meeker will host the final tournament of the regular season Saturday, starting at 10 a.m. Overton said the team will have some wrestlers in the Middle School regional tournament in Grand Junction, where the top eight wrestlers in each weight, will qualify for the middle school state tournament the following week.
