Outgoing administrator will take over reins of Mayland Community College in North Carolina
“Congratulations to John as he prepares to move back east and take on this new, great opportunity,” Dr. Nancy McCallin, president of CCCS, said in a Monday press release.
Boyd came to CNCC from South Carolina, in March 2006, with his wife Betty.
“I leave with mixed feelings,” Boyd said. “We’ll be an easy drive to our home in South Carolina but we are really going to miss CNCC and the whole region. It has been family to us and we have developed a lot of deep friendships.”
According to McCallin, Boyd was “instrumental in helping extend the Moffat County mill levy.”
“We are building a new campus in Craig, it’s an 84,000 square foot construction project,” Boyd said of the use of the mill levy extension.
Boyd also mentioned the renovation of “an old dorm” into the recently dedicated Striegel Engineering Center and his major gifts campaign, which raised more than eight million dollars to be used for other campus improvements.
A $6.4 million energy upgrade of the heating and cooling systems of CNCC campuses was also completed under Boyd’s tenure.
“We also updated a lot of our programs and built several new programs,” Boyd said. “We had a good run and it was a lot of fun.”
Boyd said it was important to him and his wife to get closer to family, but again, he was going to miss Colorado.
“We intended to come for five years and we are closing in on that,” Boyd said. “I have been fortunate to work with great faculty and staff, be involved in the communities and work with some great district boards. It has been home, we have meet some wonderful people, and we are going to miss it. I’ll be back to hunt though!”
