RANGELY — Former Rangely High School graduate Jason Brenton, currently a sophomore at Western State College in Gunnison, recently earned all-American honors by finishing eighth in the NCAA Division II national track and field meet in Mankato, Minn., March 14-15.
Brenton, a two-time state high school triple jump champion and current 2A state record holder (48-4), only competed in two indoor meets this season.
Brenton qualified with a jump of 49 feet March 1 and added 3 1/4 inches to his qualifying jump at the national meet.
Brenton, who also competes in mixed martial arts cage fights, now has a fighting license and currently holds four titles. Brenton said he will fight in Grand Junction at Two Rivers Plaza April 18.
