MEEKER — “We usually win the net,” Erik Brown said. “It was the first time we won the gross.”
Brown and his partner Lex Collins teamed up to win the 2008 two-man scramble golf tournament last Saturday at the Meeker Golf Course.
“We had gorgeous weather and a full tournament,” Irven Griffin, Meeker golf manager, said of the 27-hole event, featuring 31 teams divided into three flights. “Joe Berry added $1,000 for each flight in day money.”
The “day money” was split between the top three net winners in each flight.
Brown and Collins shot a 92 to win the championship flight and they also won the day money in their flight with a net score of 84. Tom Knez and Rick Rayl from Craig finished with the second best gross score, with a 97.
J.C. Watt and Dave Brown tied with Pat Hughes and Matt Fellows with the best net score of 89 in the championship flight.
Donald Blazon and Mike Thorsby won the second flight with a gross score of 97 and the day money with a net of 88. Dave Fiscus and Rob Vavak of Carbondale finished with gross score of 101 and were third in the day money.
Shawn Dueitt and George Kuck also shot a 101 gross but had the best net score of 91. There was a three-way tie for the second best net score between Todd and Trey Morris, Griffin and Donnie McPherson and Pat and Andy Coryell, all three teams turned in a net score of 93.
Former Meekerites Larry Shults and Fred Star won the third flight with a gross score of 108 and they also won the day money with a net score of 93. Jarrett Glowers and Joe Powell finished second with a gross score of 113.
