RANGELY I The Rangely wrestling team traveled to Vernal, Utah to compete in a very tough Tournament of Champions last weekend.
Six wrestlers made the trip for the Panthers. Heath Peters went 0-2 Friday and 2-2 Saturday. Lucas Heinle was 1-2 on day one and went 2-2 Saturday, Ethan Allred was 0-2 on day one and 2-2 on day two, Colton Coombs was 1-2 on day one and 3-0 on Saturday.
Jake Smith was 3-2 and was one match away from the medal round in the 170 pound bracket.
Rangely senior Patrick Brown was the only placer for the Panthers, finishing sixth at 285.
Coach Stolworthy stated, “We wrestled a heck of a lot better on the second day.”
This week the Panthers are home for their annual Panther Invite on Saturday featuring the Panthers, Meeker, Hayden, Soroco, Gunnison, and JV teams from Grand Junction High School, Grand Junction Central and Olathe. Wrestling starts at 9 a.m.
