Buford School benefit fish fry…

More than 200 visitors from all around Rio Blanco County and as far away as Albuquerque, N.M., enjoyed the white fish, which was the centerpiece of the Buford School fundraiser fish fry late Saturday afternoon at the Buford School, located along County Road 17, about 20 miles east of Meeker. Roughly twice as many people showed up this year compared to last year, and all the food and serving, except the white fish, was provided by members of the hosting White River Community Association. The Buford School was built in 1889 and is listed on the Colorado Register of Historic Places.

Well in excess of 200 people enjoyed the Buford School benefit fish fry late Saturday afternoon at the historic Buford School along County Road 17, filling the inside and outside eating spaces. The fish fry raises funds for upkeep of the late 19th century school and is sponsored annually by the White River Community Association and its members, who furnished the side dishes, salads and desserts. WRCA officials said roughly 125 attended the event last year. The white fish served at the event was caught during an early spring fishing tournament along the White River.

Members of the White River Community Association served up potatoes, other side dishes and salads for the more than 200 people who attended the Buford School benefit fish fry on Saturday at the Buford School, alongside County Road 17 about 20 miles east of Meeker. The funds raised go toward upkeep on the school, which is listed on the Colorado Register of Historic Places, having been built in 1889 near what is now Lake Avery.
