RANGELY I The 4th annual Rock’N’Bull’N’Barrels competition was well attended but a bit of a letdown in Rangely for Saturday night’s performance.
The bulls bucked hard and prevailed throughout the night as the cowboys gave their all, but the bulls gave more. Not a single bull rider was able to record a full eight seconds.
The grandstands were full as was the grassy area in front of the bull riding area, and it was met with heavy applause when the Colorado Northwestern Community College rodeo coach Jed Moore announced the 2013-2014 rodeo team. When Moore first started with the program, one could count the contestants on one hand. Now there are 22 participants, many among the top competitors in the nation. There were several returning members of the team who participated in the College National Finals Rodeo. Now competitors are working their way back to the top in the competition.Bull riding is an event that has made a name for itself; people know they will be seeing good wrecks and high quality riders. This year found no qualified rides, but the bull riders definitely competed for the worst wreck competition.
