MEEKER I Next week will be a very busy time at Meeker Elementary School with Drug Awareness Week, the Scholastic Book Fair and parent/teacher conferences.
Red Ribbon Week for drug awareness will start Monday and run through Thursday. This program is directed by Vicky Tate, the physical education teacher at the elementary school.
The week will also be filled with programs to inform students on many safety issues.
Meeker Police Lt. Phil Stubblefield and officer James Amick will be at school with their drug dog, Niko. Their programs are always informative and they will also speak on Halloween safety as well as drug awareness.
The Scholastic Book Fair will run Wednesday from 3-8 p.m. and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the elementary school library.
Everyone in the community is welcome to browse through the books. When you purchase a book, you are helping your students’ library, classroom and teachers. You can go to the Meeker school district website for more information, and you may order online at Scholastic.com/fair from Oct. 16 through Nov. 5, and the school will get credit for your order.
The main focus at the book fair in our library is preschool through eighth grade, but there are books for all ages.
All grandparents who come with their grandchild will have their names put in a drawing for a special prize. If you have questions, please call Kay Bivens at 878-9050, Ext 110.
And yes, it is time for parent/teacher conferences, which will be held Wednesday and Thursday from 4-8 p.m.
