MEEKER I The Meeker Mustangs completed their season Sunday playing their last game in Glenwood Springs.
The young team played an outstanding defense behind the hard hits of Lane Anderson anticipating the play and frequently tackling the opponents in their back field for a loss. Parker Pontine and Braiden Garcia also were in on some important stops during the game, preventing touchdowns by never giving up on the plays. The Mustangs were moving the ball well at the end of the first half trailing by two touchdowns, but in scoring position. They came up short but the strong running by Kelton Turner and Lane Anderson kept Meeker alive.
Going into the second half, Zagar Brown continued his outstanding play, helping the defense continuously hold their opponents to very limited yards. The Mustang offense couldn’t seem to find a rhythm but never quit trying. Liam Deming, Cooper Maine and Connor Blunt all carried the ball for the Mustangs trying to open up some running room for Turner and Anderson. Despite their hard work, the Mustangs were behind at the final buzzer but certainly came out of their season successful.
The young players learned a great deal about the game of football, the importance of practice and of course the significance of teamwork. The kids and parents appreciate all the time and effort put in by the coaching staff and sponsors, Cole Trucking and Shelton Welding for providing this experience for our youth.
