The Cabin Lake Fire is now at 90 percent containment and 5,975 acres. Crews are continuing to patrol and secure the fire edge along the north and eastern portion of the fire edge.
The cause of the Cabin Lake Fire, which started July 29, is still unknown and under investigation by the Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Forest Service. Firefighting efforts have cost an estimated $11 million thus far.

Meeker Fire sent three engines to the lightning-caused James Fire north of Meeker Friday. As of press time Wednesday, the fire had reached 324 acres and was 90 percent contained.
Local crews also responded to two small fires on private property on Labor Day, both of which were controlled and contained the same day.
