RBC I Winter sports for Rio Blanco County high schools will begin the 2015 portion of their winter sports schedules tonight with wrestling and home court basketball action in Meeker and Rangely on Friday.
The Meeker Cowboy wrestling team will start 2015 on the road, traveling to Grand Valley tonight for a dual meet with the Cardinals.
The Cowboys ended 2014 wrestling in the competitive Warrior Classic for the first time in several years and finished 10th as a team.
The Cowboys will continue the challenge of wrestling teams from all divisions and other states when they travel to Vernal, Utah, for the Tournament of Champions, which starts Friday.
The Rangely Panthers will also be in attendance at the Tournament of Champions, which features 32-man brackets and wrestling on 10 mats.
All of Rio Blanco County basketball teams will host games Friday.
Rangely’s boys’ and girls’ basketball teams will host the Plateau Valley Cowboys on Friday and travel to Cedaredge on Saturday. Both contests will count towards league standings
The Panthers boys’ and girls’ teams start the year with 1-3 records.
The Meeker boys’ basketball team will put its undefeated (4-0) record on the line Friday and Saturday, when they host league rivals Cedaredge and Paonia.
The Meeker girls start 2015 with a 3-1 record and will play the same teams as the boys on their home court Friday and Saturday.
