Calls drop 27.4 percent at communications center

RBC | During October 2009, the Rio Blanco County Communications Center experienced a remarkable 27.4 percent decrease in activity compared to October 2008. However, the number of incidents for 2009 has increased 2.9 percent year-to-date.
onopatrollogoTotal incidents received through the communications center decreased to 828 in October 2009, down from 1,141 in October 2008. The number of calls for service decreased for the sheriff’s office with 206 incidents in October 2009, down from 301 in October 2008. Traffic stops decreased from 459 in October 2008 to 382 in October 2009 for the sheriff’s office. The Meeker P.D. responded to 138 calls for service during October 2009, down from 250 in October 2008. Traffic stops for the Meeker P.D. also decreased from 91 stops in October 2008 to 69 stops in October 2009.
Activity for both agencies included these most notable classifications: 451 traffic stops; 43 animal calls; 32 suspicious incidents; 29 motorist assists; 29 VIN inspections; 19 incidents assisting the Colorado State Patrol; 16 accidents with property damage; 14 traffic arrests; 12 traffic complaints; 12 warrant arrests; 10 thefts; nine citizen assists; eight civil situations; eight narcotics cases; seven harassment cases; seven search and rescues; four DUIs; four trespass cases; three hit and run accidents; two criminal mischief cases; two disturbances; one injury accident; one assault; one auto theft; one burglary; one restraining order violation and one weapons violation.
During October 2009, the Rio Blanco County Detention Center housed a daily average of 15.97 inmates, with 14.23 males and 1.74 females, up from a daily average of 14.61 inmates in September 2009. The number of bookings remained unchanged for both September and October 2009 with 70 people processed in the detention center. Of the 70 people processed in October 2009, 63 were jailed and seven were booked and released. The number of meals served by the detention center also remained unchanged from September 2009 with 1,072 meals served in October 2009.
The Rangely Police Department reported their communications center logged 293 incidents during October 2009. Of those incidents, the most noteworthy classifications for the Rangely P.D. include: 104 traffic contacts; 76 911 calls; 37 arrests; 26 animal calls; 18 incidents assisting Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s office; 18 VIN inspections; 13 stolen/damaged property cases; eight warrant arrests; seven disturbances; five alarm calls; five suspicious incidents; four citizen assists; four welfare checks; three incidents assisting the Colorado State Patrol; two narcotics cases; one harassment case and one vandalism case.
