Cameras roll at Old Timers’ event

MEEKER I The Rio Blanco County Historical Society and Meeker Arts and Cultural Committee are partnering again at this year’s annual Old Timers’ Dinner and Dance to capture stories from area pioneers and their descendants.
Years ago, the RBCHS compiled and published the “This Is What I Remember” series: three volumes of pioneers’ stories of life in early-day Meeker/Rio Blanco County. That project continues today, but it has been enhanced through the video-capture of the stories, sometimes in a group setting. Each memory sparks another as the stories unfold.
These videos are being maintained for posterity and will be transferred to the latest technology as needed, and transcribed for written archiving.
On June 8 at the Freeman E. Fairfield Center, 200 Main St. in Meeker, the cameras will be rolling again.Those persons from pioneer families, other family members and friends are invited to participate.
It is time to recall those stories passed down from area ancestors/pioneers or to share memorable events that have shaped the area’s culture.
There will be a list of possible subjects to help get the stories rolling.
