RANGELY I During the summer, 15-year-old Angelica “Geli” Brown puts in about three-and-a-half hours in the pool each day. Depending on her team’s schedule, she’ll swim “ladders,” or sets of increasingly longer lengths, to build endurance.

RANGELY I With the 2012-2013 school year just ending, many Rio Blanco County teams are using the offseason to prepare for next year, including the Rangely Junior/Senior High School girls’ basketball program, which hosted a tournament Friday and Saturday.

Rangely High School graduate Tobie Gasper encouraged to run for home base by head coach Paul Fortunato after hitting a home run, was selected to play in the 1A-2A all-state baseball game. The all-state game will be played June 2 at Machebeuf High School in Denver, beginning at 2 p.m.

The 2013 Colorado 6/8-man all-state football game will take place May 31 at La Junta High School’s Tiger Stadium. Rangely’s Chas Byerly was nominated by league coaches and selected to play in the game showcasing Colorado seniors.

Rangely High School senior Quincey Thacker has signed with Snow College in Ephraim, Utah, to play volleyball this fall.
