The inaugural five-day Meeker Classic National Cattledog Association Cattledog Trials began bright and early on Wednesday morning, and the first team to begin the scoring action was Steve Wight of Bancroft, Idaho, and his well-known partner Levi, seen above steering his three cows toward the No. 5 gate.
Wight and Levi earned 60 points on their run, the first in five days of competition featuring roughly 145 dogs in five classes with the championships on Sunday at Ute Park, just west of the Meeker town limits. Grandstands, vendors of all types, art, pottery, classes and demonstrations are all a part of the event.
