RBC I Colorado cavers have been notified that all Colorado, South Dakota and most Wyoming public caves with the U.S. Forest Service will be closed, starting July 19, to protect bats from White-Nose Syndrome, which is caused by fungus and disturbs the animals during hibernation, weakening them enough to often kill them. The closure order would include Spring Cave, a source said. The order will be in effect for 12 months, according to the Colorado Caves website.
