Chamber gears up for project

Meeker Chamber of Commerce member Onea Miller visits with fellow member Gus Halandras at a recent After Hours mixer at Gofer Foods. This month’s After Hours will be hosted by Horizons Specialized Services, Thursday, May 26.

Wonderful sunshine, blooming flowers, green grass and fun community events go hand in hand! With the welcoming of spring and summer, the Meeker Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for many events.
The annual Meeker Beautification project is gearing up and we are anxiously awaiting the beautiful flowers which will be planted around town. If you are interested in supporting this project with monetary donations or caring for a pot of flowers, please contact the Meeker Chamber. We would love to have community involvement in this project. We have approximately 30 flower pots around town, which add amazing eye appeal to our town.
May 21 marks the date for the annual After Birth Ball. This time-honored tradition is one you won’t want to miss as we welcome in the springtime livestock babies. The Meeker Chamber is working in collaboration with the Meeker FFA Chapter to bring this fun event to our community. There will be food, dancing and live entertainment at the Fairfield Center beginning at 6 p.m. Everyone is welcome!
This month’s Chamber After Hours is hosted by Horizons Specialized Services, on Thursday, May 26. This service organization provides assistance to developmentally disabled people and offers supported living services to residents in our area. Ma Famiglia will be catering this event, which is to be held at the Meeker School District Administration building on the corner of Sixth and Garfield streets. This event will be a great opportunity to network with fellow business people and learn more about the services of Horizons. Come visit us at this free event from 5-6:30 p.m., that evening.
June 7 marks a busy day for the Meeker Chamber. The second annual Tourism and Business Expo will be held at Meeker High School in conjunction with an exciting workshop on how to save our economy!
The Meeker Chamber of Commerce is very excited to announce that Cinda Baxter, founder of the 3/50 project is coming to Meeker on June 7. Cinda Baxter is committed to helping raise awareness of how small communities can bolster their own economies through supporting local retailers and local retailers supporting the community. It is no surprise to anyone that our local economy is facing tough times and with Cinda Baxter’s help, hopefully we can turn our economy around! She will be speaking at the Meeker High School that evening, with a Chamber Mixer beginning at 5 p.m. Cinda takes the stage at 6 p.m. This educational and motivational event is not to be missed! More details will follow in the upcoming weeks.
Finally, Saturday, June 11, Hwy. 5 will be bursting with activity. This is our fifth annual RBC Road 5 Cleanup! This service event is sponsored by local oil and gas companies and the Meeker Chamber of Commerce to keep the Piceance Creek road clean and attractive. Local youth organizations receive donations for their help in cleaning the roadside. If traveling on RBC Road 5, watch for pedestrians!
