RBC — Child Find is coming. Horizons Specialized Services, in conjunction with Rio Blanco BOCES, the Department of Social Services, County Health, Aspen Dental Clinic and Columbine Medical Clinic are all getting together to screen our young children ages 6 months to 5 years in Rangely and Meeker.
The dates are March 24-25 (in Rangely) and March 31 and April 1 (in Meeker).
As the Part C Coordinator for Northwest Colorado, Kathy Northcutt oversees services for any baby, birth to 3, who might have a delay in development. This would include vision, hearing, movement, speech and social/emotional concerns. All of the new brain development studies show that the earlier services start, the better the outcome; and our goal is to have all children school ready by kindergarten.
If a child is identified as needing some help we are required by law to write a plan and have service start within 45 days. Most services are free and, for children under 3, provided in the home.
Our goal would be to screen all children by their third birthday, even if parents have no real concerns. Northcutt encourages all parents to call and sign up now for an appointment, in Rangely call 878-9525 and in Meeker call 878-9520.
