RBC I Rio Blanco County seniors Kaysyn Chintala and Quincey Thacker have been chosen to participate in the Colorado Coaches of Girls’ Sports (CCGS) All-State Volleyball games, which will take place on Sunday, Nov. 18, at Arvada West High School in Arvada, Colo.
The Colorado Coaches of Girls’ Sports has been sponsoring all-state games since 1978, providing a showcase for their talent. Matches will be played in all five classifications, with the 1A match starting at 9 a.m., followed by the 2A match at 10:30 a.m.
Players are chosen based on talent, dedication, team play and leadership. Chintala and Thacker were nominated by league coaches for the CCGS All-State games, while it was coaches representing all the leagues who made the final selection of 90 athletes. Chintala, who played for Meeker and Thacker, who played for Rangely are two of 18 seniors in the state representing 2A volleyball.
Chintala was coached by Christy Atwood and was the varsity setter for the lady Cowboys the past three years. Chintala led the Western Slope League in assists this year, was named the Western Slope League Setter of the Year and served as co-captain of the Meeker Cowboys.
“We’re really excited for her,” coach Atwood said of Chintala. “She has worked hard the last two years and this year we had a team around her where she was able to showcase her talents.”
Thacker was coach by Jimmie Mergelman and a varsity player all four years. Thacker was the captain of her team the past two years, led the Western Slope League with kills and was named the Western Slope League Hitter of the Year.
“Quincey is a great athlete on and off the floor and it has been an honor to coach her the past three years,” Mergelman said.
