Longtime Barone Middle School teacher Greg Chintala will give the commencement address for the 2011 graduation ceremonies May 28.
Before the Meeker Board of Education officially approved Chintala as commencement speaker, they listened to fourth- and fifth-graders perform as a marimba group, directed by Anna Todd.
The board then accepted the resignation of Meeker High School teacher Jeff Palmer, who was also Meeker’s head football coach. Palmer, who currently teaches vocational business at MHS, accepted a teaching position at Wasson High School in Colorado Springs and will also be the head football coach for the 3A Thunderbirds. MHS principal George Henderson said his staff would absorb Palmer’s teaching duties.
MHS custodian Jeannie Johnson will be moving and also resigned.
Board members went into executive sessions to discuss personnel matters, MES, BMS and MHS teacher and BMS coaching evaluations.
Meeker Elementary principal Jason Hightower and BMS principal Jim Hanks will ask for staff input on filling holes after board members reconvened and announced they would not renew the contracts of MES second-grade Susan Tenhor and BMS teachers Aaron King and Laura Stoddard.
A calendar for the 2011-2012 school year was adopted by the board and a date was set to for the superintendent and BOCES executive director evaluations.
