Public Information Meeting Public Safety and Cell Phone Communications Site Installation, Thursday February 9th, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. Rio Blanco County Boardroom, 200 Main Street, Suite 100, Meeker, Colorado. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) White River Field Office is initiating an Environmental Assessment (EA) for the proposed co-located Public Safety and Cell Phone Communications Site. The “Marvine Site”, located approximately thirty miles east of Meeker near RBC Road 8, will include a one hundred foot tall tower with antennas and microwave dishes along with a single story equipment building. The tower and building will be shared between Rio Blanco County and Union Telephone Co. This site will provide new additional phone coverage as well as public safety communications in the area. Rio Blanco County Road and Bridge Department, Sheriff’s Office, and Union Telephone Co. have filed applications with the BLM for right-of-way grants under Title V of the Federal Land Policy and Management Act of October 21, 1976 (90.Stat. 2776; 43 U.S.C. 1761) to authorize the site installation. The BLM will prepare an EA to disclose the direct, indirect, and cumulative environmental impacts of the development plan and a No Action Alternative. As a starting point in the assessment, the BLM is soliciting input on the issues that will be considered in the preparation of the EA. At this time, you are encouraged to provide any comments, concerns, or issues that you may have with regard to the proposed development plan.   • Mormon crickets have hatched near Rangely. They were all sighted on BLM land north of Hwy. 64 near the junction of CR 96 and CR 1, down a dirt road near the Moffat County line.  The picture shown was taken yesterday by Mary Meinen from Rangely. She says the crickets are about the size of a ladybug (less than 1/2”). Some of them are actually yellow in color but most of them are darker. They are milling around and getting ready to start moving soon. Note: Photo is not to scale.
Rio Blanco County and the White River and Douglas Creek Conservation Districts are still asking for your help to identify additional hatch-outs of crickets so that control efforts can be put in place. The success of the program will highly depend upon local landowners and the public helping to locate crickets as soon as they hatch.  See last week’s paper for a list of ways to help or contact the County Weed & Pest District at 970-878-9670 or the Conservation District office at 970-878-9838 with any questions. Second place team was Drake Consulting: Travis Kaiser, John Douglas, Tony Bartolomucci and Bob Brandeberry. Third place team Mr. Rogers and the Hood (accepted by Doug Rogers) Gary Rogers, Mark Beauchamp, Kyle Schutte and Rick Gunter. The white fish have been frozen and will be served at the annual White River Community Association fish fry fundraiser in June.
