ORDINANCE NO. 2, Series 2011 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING MEEKER MUNICIPAL CODE, TITLE 18, CHAPTER 6, MEEKER RETAIL SALES/SMALL-SCALE MANUFACTURING OVERLAY ZONE ORDINANCE OF 1990, SECTION 18.6.104, JURISDICTION OF OVERLAY ZONE, AND THE 2010 ZONING DISTRICT MAP OF THE TOWN OF MEEKER (OFFICIAL MAP) WITH THE ADDITION OF CERTAIN LOTS WITHIN THE OVERLAY ZONE DISTRICT. WHEREAS, a property owner made an inquiry to the Town staff concerning potential uses of a parcel of real property in Block 26, located adjacent to the boundaries of the Retail Sales/Small-Scale Manufacturing Overlay Zone District (the “RS/SSM”); and, WHEREAS, this inquiry prompted the Town staff to examine the appropriateness and feasibility of enlarging the RS/SSM area, which, currently, includes Block 9, Lots 4,5,6,7,8, and 9 and Block 10, Lots 4,5, and 6; and, WHEREAS, subsequently, the Town staff made inquiry of another owner of real property owner located in Block 26, whose property abuts the boundary of the RS/SSM, the use of which property may be of a peculiar suitability with the uses provided in the RS/SSM; and the property owner was agreeable with the possible inclusion of such real property in the RS/SSM; and, WHEREAS, the Town planner, thereafter, pursuant to M.M.C. 18.1.148, submitted an application to amend the Town’s Zoning Map and amend M.M.C. 18.6.104 by including the following described real property, to wit: Lot 1, Block 26 (702 Main Street) and Lot 2, Block 26 (734 Main Street), (collectively, the “Subject Property”), within the boundaries of the RS/SSM (collectively, the “Proposed Amendments”); and, WHEREAS, on January 31, 2011, the Planning Commission held a public hearing concerning the Proposed Amendments, notice of which having been duly given in the Rio Blanco Herald Times newspaper; and, WHEREAS, at such public hearing, the public was given the opportunity to voice its opinion and a presentation was made by the Town staff concerning the Proposed Amendments and based upon the evidence presented at the public hearing, the Planning Commission recommended to the Town Board of Trustees (the “Town Board”) to approve the Proposed Amendments concerning the Subject Property; and, WHEREAS, the Town Board held a public hearing on February 15, 2011, at its regular meeting at Town Hall, 345 Market Street, Meeker, Colorado, to which hearing public notice was duly given in the Rio Blanco Herald Times Newspaper, concerning the Proposed Amendments; and, WHEREAS, the Town Board on the basis of the evidence produced at said public hearing has made the following determinations of fact: 1. Jace Mobley was named Player of the Western Slope League and all-conference, Ryan Sullivan all-conference, Jonathon Fitzgibbons all-conference, Ethan Quinn honorable mention all-conference, Jacob Simonsen honorable mention all conference. Mobley will play in All State games. Coach Klark Kindler was named Western Slope Coach of the Year. Left to right: Bryan Rosas, Simonsen, Quinn, Fitzgibbons, Mobley and Sullivan.

  • Mormon crickets have hatched near Rangely. They were all sighted on BLM land north of Hwy. 64 near the junction of CR 96 and CR 1, down a dirt road near the Moffat County line.  The picture shown was taken yesterday by Mary Meinen from Rangely. She says the crickets are about the size of a ladybug (less than 1/2”). Some of them are actually yellow in color but most of them are darker. They are milling around and getting ready to start moving soon. Note: Photo is not to scale.
Rio Blanco County and the White River and Douglas Creek Conservation Districts are still asking for your help to identify additional hatch-outs of crickets so that control efforts can be put in place. The success of the program will highly depend upon local landowners and the public helping to locate crickets as soon as they hatch.  See last week’s paper for a list of ways to help or contact the County Weed & Pest District at 970-878-9670 or the Conservation District office at 970-878-9838 with any questions.
