Legal Notice – Opportunity to Comment on Blanco Milk Creek Grazing Allotment Environmental Assessment. The White River National Forest, Blanco Ranger District has prepared an Environmental Assessment (EA) to address the environmental consequences of a proposed agency action to continue to authorize sheep and goat livestock grazing on the Milk Creek Sheep and Goat (S&G) grazing allotment. The Milk Creek S&G allotment is located on the north side of the Blanco Ranger District, northeast of the town of Meeker, Colorado, on National Forest System (NFS) lands within White River Plateau of northwest Colorado. It is found by the general legal description of Township 2 North, Range 90 West, portions of Sections 18 and 19 and Township 2 North, Range 91 West, portions of Sections 24-30. The allotment encompasses 9,667 acres. The Proposed Action (Alternative 3) would continue to permit livestock grazing within the Milk Creek Grazing Allotment Analysis Area under an adaptive management strategy that would meet or move toward desired conditions identified in the 2002 White River National Forest Revised Land and Resource Management Plan and on a site-specific level. Currently, 1250 ewe/lambs are permitted on the allotment from July 1 through September 15, for a total of 77 days and 975 permitted AUMs. This will remain as a starting point for the season of use and permitted AUMs on the allotment under the preferred alternative. In addition, a livestock exclusion area that encompasses 1,165 acres is delineated in uplands adjacent to Milk Creek within the preferred alternative. The EA is available for review at http://www.fs.fed.us/r2/whiteriver/projects. Additional information regarding this action can be obtained from: Mary Cunningham, 220 E. Market St., Meeker, CO 81641; (970) 878-6015; Email: [email protected]. How to Comment and Timeframe: Written, facsimile, hand-delivered, oral, and electronic comments will be accepted for 30 calendar days following the publication of this notice in the Herald Times. The publication date in the newspaper of record is the exclusive means for calculating the comment period for this analysis. Those wishing to comment should not rely upon dates or timeframe information provided by any other source. The regulations prohibit extending the length of the comment period. Written comments must be submitted to: Ken W. Coffin, Blanco District Ranger, 220 E. Market St., Meeker, CO 81641; FAX: (970) 878-5173.
