CNCC Rangely adds challenge course to campus

RANGELY I The Rangely campus of Colorado Northwestern Community College has just begun construction of a ropes course across the street from the CNCC softball field. Contractors began the implementation of what looks like several large telephone poles on the site.
“Spread the word and build the excitement,” said CNCC dean of instruction Judy Allred. “The ropes course will be a great addition to CNCC, our communities and our surrounding area. A ropes course enhances education and personal growth in all kinds of ways.”
Allred also emphasized the following, “Thanks to the Rangely Junior College Board of Trustees and all the Rangely taxpayers for funding this project. Thanks to Ducey’s Electric for helping set the poles. Thanks to all the faculty, staff and students who are helping with construction. Thanks to Tom Leahy and his construction crew. This is truly a CNCC community effort!”
Completion of the project should happen by the end of next week. CNCC natural resource director Anne Cummings explained, “A ropes course is a challenging outdoor personal development and team building activity which usually consists of high and/or low elements. Low elements take place on the ground or only a few feet above the ground. High elements are usually constructed in trees or made of utility poles and require a belay for safety. The high ropes course will have the following elements:
1. A-frame climbing tower with one climbing face and deck. (Four poles)
2. Two pole tower with deck
3. Catwalk/balance beam
4. Multiline traverse
5. Bosons loops
6. Two line bridge
7. Dual pole leap of faith
The low ropes course has Low V or Wild Woozy cables and Mohawk walk elements.
